Mets Linked To Elite Reliever To Bolster Bullpen After Stellar Season
The New York Mets have plenty of work to do this offseason.
New York already has made a few moves this offseason but hasn't made any major additions. The Mets added a few bounce-back candidates in Luis Severino and Joey Wendle but still have a lot of work to do.
New York has been linked to multiple players this offseason but free agency has been odd so far. It has been extremely slow so far and it's unclear what most teams are doing. The Mets fit this description well. New York attempted to land former Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto but missed out. Now, it's unclear what they will do.
The Mets need to improve the bullpen this offseason and one player who has been linked to the club is one-time All-Star Matt Moore, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.
"I don't think Josh Hader fits their profile for this winter, with relievers such as Matt Moore or Aroldis Chapman more likely options," McDaniel said. "Both Harrison Bader and Tommy Pham make sense for the outfielder spot depending on what kind of durability and defense they're looking to add. None of these relievers or outfielders should require more than a two-year deal."
Moore began his career as a starting pitcher but fully transitioned into a bullpen role in 2022 and has been impressive since. He logged a 1.95 ERA in 63 appearances in 2022 and a 2.56 ERA in 50 total appearances in 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Guardians, and Miami Marlins.
It's unclear how likely a move is, but New York could be in the mix for Moore this offseason.
