The New York Mets missed out on their top option in free agency but that doesn't mean the club can't have a successful offseason.

New York already has added depth this offseason by bringing in former All-Stars Luis Severino and Joey Wendle. The Mets need to make a few more strong moves if they want to get back to the postseason.

The Mets still need to add another frontline starter and certainly could use some help at designated hitter after letting Daniel Vogelbach go this offseason. Luckily for the Mets, the free agent market has been extremely slow this offseason and there are still some pretty solid options available.

One player who has been floated as an option for the Mets is former Los Angeles Dodgers slugger J.D. Martinez, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

"There are way too many good DH options out there for the DH-needy Mets to miss," Abriano said. "Justin Turner, J.D. Martinez, Rhys Hoskins, Jorge Soler, Teoscar Hernandez. They simply need to choose one and hammer out a deal. No excuses."

New York missed out on its top choice in free agency as the Dodgers swooped in and landed young ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto to a massive contract. The Mets now need to pivot elsewhere and Abriano floated a few sluggers as possible options to help and Martinez popped up on his list.

Martinez has been mentioned as a fit for the Mets on multiple occasions this offseason after a strong season with the Dodgers in 2023. The six-time All-Star launched 33 home runs, drove in 103 runs, hit 27 doubles, and slashed .271/.321/.572 in 113 games with Los Angeles.
