Changes certainly are on the horizon for the New York Mets.

New York had an underwhelming season, to say the least. The Mets finished the 2023 campaign with a 75-87 record after winning 101 games in 2022. New York never was able to live up to expectations and it already has led to changes with former Milwaukee Brewers executive David Stearns taking over as president of baseball operations, Buck Showalter being fired as manager, and Billy Eppler stepping down as the club's general manager.

The Mets' roster also will look very different this season as the club looks to get back to the postseason. New York likely will prioritize pitching and one player who reportedly could land a massive contract from the Mets is Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"Word going around is the Mets might be high bidders for coveted Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Every big-market team has been tracking the two-time MVP, but a couple rival GMs say they hear the Mets are expected to go big.

"The (New York Yankees), (Chicago Cubs), (Los Angeles Dodgers), (Boston Red Sox), (St. Louis Cardinals), (Philadelphia Phillies), (San Francisco Giants), (Arizona Diamondbacks), (Detroit Tigers), and (Texas Rangers) and others heavily scouted Yamamoto."

Yamamoto has been linked to the Mets in the past and he would be an intriguing addition. The Mets have spent big on pitching over the last few years, but have landed pitchers on the back half of their careers. Yamamoto is just 25 years old and has a career 1.72 ERA in seven professional seasons for the Orix Buffaloes. The young righty is a star in the making and could help the Mets out not only just in 2024 but for the foreseeable future. New York has the money to spend and it sounds like it may end up being used on one of the most highly-coveted pitchers who will be available.
