Should the Mets sign the former Red Sox hurler this offseason in free agency?

The New York Mets have started to rebuild the starting rotation but still have more work to do.

New York already has added former New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino and reportedly is interested in a former member of another American League East club. New York needs to add likely two more starters this offseason and reportedly have shown interest in former Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers lefty Eduardo Rodríguez, according to Metsmerized Online's Mike Mayer.

"Sources: The Mets have shown interest in left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez," Mayer said. "The 30-year-old had a career-best 3.30 ERA during the 2023 season."

Rodríguez is an interesting player to look out for the Mets. New York needs steady arms and Rodríguez is coming off the best season of his career. The big lefty logged a 3.30 ERA across 152 2/3 innings pitched for the Tigers. Overall, Rodríguez has a career 4.03 ERA in eight big league seasons.

The Mets have spent massively over the last few seasons and have focused on pitchers at the back end of their careers. Rodríguez is just 30 years old and could help the club for years to come. Plus, the Mets have the money to land someone like Rodríguez and someone like Orix Buffaloes star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. If New York could land two starters to pair with Kodai Senga and Severino, it could be back in the postseason next year.

There's still plenty of work to do and the Mets will have stiff competition for starting pitching, but it's very interesting that they may be pursuing Rodríguez.
