Mets 'Targeting' Ex-Yankees Star Hurler After Impressive Season In Free Agency
The New York Mets still could use another addition or two this offseason.
New York has quietly had a strong offseason. The Mets entered the offseason with multiple holes throughout the roster and have filled most of them without having to make massive investments.
The Mets have plenty of money to spend, but it seems like the club isn't planning on handing out a huge deal this offseason. While this is the case, New York still could make another important addition or two without breaking the bank.
New York's bullpen could still use some work and one player the club is "targeting" is former Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, and New York Yankees hurler Wandy Peralta, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Mets are pursuing lefty relievers, and one they have been targeting is Wandy Peralta, who had a sub-3 ERA all three years with the Yankees," Heyman said.
New York certainly will have some competition for Peralta if it actually wants to get a deal done, though. The Yankees have been linked to Peralta as a possible reunion candidate this offseason and top bullpen options are starting to run out in free agency.
Peralta would be a very solid pickup for the Mets. He already has experience playing in New York as a member of the Yankees and had a 2.83 ERA in 63 appearances last season with a 51-to-30 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 innings pitched.
The Mets still have some work to do and landing someone like Peralta would be a great place to start.
