New York Mets Claim Seth Elledge From Braves
The Mets have added to their pitching depth.
On Tuesday, the Mets claimed right-handed pitcher Seth Elledge off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets then optioned Elledge to Triple-A Syracuse. In order to make room for him on the 40-man roster, New York moved Jose Quintana (rib surgery) to the 60-day IL.
Elledge last appeared in the major leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021.
In 23 career big-league appearances, Elledge holds a 4.63 ERA and 25 strikeouts.
Elledge tossed three scoreless innings in Triple-A this season. Last year, he posted a 3.88 ERA in 43 appearances in Triple-A.
The Mets’ pitching staff has certainly suffered a significant amount of injuries during this young season. By adding Elledge, they’re added to their depth at the upper level of the minor leagues.
