New York Mets DH Darin Ruf Dealing With Wrist Injury
PORT ST. LUCIE - Mets right-handed DH option, Darin Ruf, is dealing with wrist soreness that's going to hold him back for a couple days in camp.
Ruf received a cortisone shot in his right wrist, which should keep him limited for the next 2-3 days.
As Ruf revealed, he received an MRI on his wrist, which showed arthritis. The hope is that he can start swinging the bat again in a few days.
The expectation is that Ruf will platoon as a DH against left-handed pitching this season, with Daniel Vogelbach playing against righties.
Manager Buck Showalter also indicated that outfielder Tommy Pham could see time against lefties as well, given his impressive splits.
After the Mets acquired Ruf from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline, the 36-year-old struggled immensely, batting .152 with a .413 OPS in 28 games. The injured Ruf discussed why he believes he had such a rough go of things after coming to Queens last season.
"I think midseason trades are tough on anybody," Ruf said on Tuesday. "I think performance stems from being comfortable and in rhythm. When midseason trades happen they affect people differently, so I think my performance suffered from that."
