New York Mets Injury Update: Brandon Nimmo

Mets injury update: Brandon Nimmo.
In this story:

He's making progress.

On the Mets' off day on Tuesday, center fielder Brandon Nimmo was at Clover Park testing his sprained knee/ankle. According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, Mets officials liked what they saw from Nimmo and consider him to be progressing.

Nimmo's status for Opening Day on March 30 is still up in the air.

Nimmo injured his knee and ankle while sliding into second base during the Mets' Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins on Friday.

Imaging revealed no structural damage, but a sprain of both the knee and ankle for Nimmo.

If Nimmo is unable to be ready for Opening Day, Mark Canha would presumably start in center field to begin the season. This would push fourth outfielder Tommy Pham into the starting lineup in left field. Starling Marte can also play center, but has said that he prefers to remain in right field.

The good news is that Nimmo seems to be making progress towards a return. The Mets listed him as week-to-week, but their center fielder appears to be on the mend rather quickly, which is a positive sign.

Nimmo also said on Sunday that he expects to be out there on Opening Day.

"In my heart of hearts, yeah, I do think [I'll be ready for Opening Day]. Obviously, we have to see how it goes, but yeah, right now I definitely think that I’ll be ready for Opening Day."
