New York Mets Injury Update: Justin Verlander
The Mets received some promising news about their injured ace.
According to manager Buck Showalter, Justin Verlander threw his first bullpen session on Saturday in Port St. Lucie and it went really well.
His next steps will include another bullpen, then live batting practice, and finally either a simulated game or a minor league rehab start.
When speaking to reporters recently, Verlander was hopeful that he would be able to return to the big-league team before the end of April.
Verlander has been on the IL with a teres major strain since Opening Day. In his absence, Tylor Megill has slotted into the rotation.
Megill has gone 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his first three starts of the season.
As good as Megill has been, the Mets would still like to have Verlander back in their rotation sooner rather than later.
The Mets signed Verlander for two-years, $86 million in the offseason. The plan was to pair him atop the rotation with co-ace Max Scherzer.
