New York Mets Make Flurry of Roster Moves
The Mets made several roster moves on their pitching staff on Saturday.
New York promoted pitchers Jose Butto and Jimmy Yacabonis to the big-league squad. As a result, Stephen Nogosek was placed on the 15-day IL and Dennis Santana was designated for assignment.
Nogosek was struck with a come backer on his pitching arm during Friday night's game against the Oakland Athletics, which forced him to exit. He was placed on the IL with a right elbow bone bruise.
Nogosek had been solid so far this season, allowing two runs in 6.1 innings, while striking out eight and walking three.
As for Santana, his Mets tenure got off to a rocky start, as he posted a 7.04 ERA in 7.2 innings. While he struck out 28.6% batters he faced, he walked 14.3% of hitters he faced.
If Santana clears waivers he will report to Triple-A Syracuse.
Butto was called up to start a game on the Mets' west coast road trip, where they will need an extra starter.
Yacabonis was brought up to serve as a fresh arm in the Mets' bullpen after Santana threw 2.1 innings on Friday night.
