New York Mets Pitcher Carlos Carrasco to Begin Rehab Assignment
The rotation is getting healthier.
Mets starter Carlos Carrasco will begin a rehab assignment on either Friday or Saturday, as manager Buck Showalter told reporters.
If all goes well in his minor league rehab start this weekend, Carrasco is expected to rejoin the Mets next week.
Carrasco has been on the IL since April 15 with right elbow inflammation, which was caused by a bone fragment in his elbow.
Carrasco received a cortisone injection and has responded well, tossing several bullpen sessions since.
Prior to landing on the shelf, Carrasco made three starts for the Mets this season, but struggled mightily with a 8.56 ERA. He also saw a dip in his velocity from last year.
In addition to Carrasco being out, Justin Verlander and Jose Quintana have also been on the IL, while Max Scherzer was forced to serve a 10-game suspension for sticky substances.
The good news is that Verlander and Scherzer are back, and Carrasco is not far behind him as long as his rehab start goes well.
