Rising Postseason Star Reportedly Could Join Mets This Offseason To Bolster Rotation
There's going to be plenty of rumors floated about the New York Mets until the 2024 campaign ultimately kicks off.
New York has holes on the roster and the money needed to fill them. The Mets also are in an attractive location in New York and will be a hot spot this offseason. Seemingly every big free agent and trade target will be linked to the Mets in some way. This is only going to increase as we get closer to free agency.
One player who could be a possible fit for the Mets but could end up costing too much is Texas Rangers lefty Jordan Montgomery, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.
"Beyond (Yoshinobu Yamamoto), the cleanest fit via free agency could be Jordan Montgomery, but his price tag could become bloated beyond where it should be due to the impressive postseason performance he's having with the Rangers," Abriano said.
Montgomery has made plenty of headlines this season. The big lefty began the season with the St. Louis Cardinals and impressed before being traded to the Texas Rangers and finished the regular season with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts. Montgomery has seen his stock rise even higher in the postseason as he's been spectacular for the Rangers. The 30-year-old has allowed just four earned runs in 17 1/3 innings pitched so far this postseason.
He already has seen success playing in New York -- although for the Yankees -- and could be an intriguing name to watch out for. Montgomery likely will be penciled in as a club's No. 2 pitcher in 2024 but could end up getting a massive payday because of his success this season. New York has the money to spend and could afford him. It's unclear exactly what will happen but the Mets at least should look into a move.
