Blake Snell Rumors: 4 New Teams Entered Sweepstakes for Padres Superstar Free Agent
The Blake Snell sweepstakes continue to move forward as Opening Day nears. But on Monday, we got some new information regarding interested teams.
Snell's agent Scott Boras, who spoke to reporters at the introductory press conference for another one of his client's, Matt Chapman, said that four new teams have reached out to him sine the start of spring training regarding the reigning National League Cy Young winner.
It's not known what four teams have reached out to Snell's agent, but this is obviously a good sign for the Padres free agent.
The 31-year-old is coming off one of the best season of his career, winning the 2023 NL Cy Young award and being named to the All-MLB First Team. However, he has yet to sign with a team with less than a month from the start of the regular season.
In the latest odds for Snell's next team, Bookies.com has the New York Yankees at the top with +150 odds. Following the Yankees are the Seattle Mariners at +400, the Los Angeles Angels at +550, the San Francisco Giants at +600, and the Boston Red Sox at +1000 to fill out the top five.
With the regular season approaching, there are reports Snell is willing to take a shorter team deal with a high AAV. This could increase his chances of finding a new team, as it makes him more attractive to teams not wanting to hand out a long contract to a pitcher on the wrong side of 30.
Additionally, Snell has had issues replicating success in the past.
In 2019, after winning his first Cy Young award as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, he had one of his worst years on the mound. He went 6-8 with a 4.29 ERA and only pitched in 107 innings with a significant drop in his numbers across the board.
Opening Day will be here in no time, and the All-Star pitcher is hoping that someone gives him an offer he's looking for in the next few weeks.
