Dylan Cease Opens Up on Trade to Padres
Dylan Cease's name has been in trade rumors since last year's trade deadline. He's probably happy to finally be done with the waiting game.
On Wednesday, the San Diego Padres agreed to a blockbuster deal to send three top prospects and right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson to the Chicago White Sox for Cease, just before the team left Peoria for Korea.
Cease was at Padres camp on Thursday before getting on his own flight to Korea, and opened up about the trade to San Diego.
“Very, very interesting timing to say the least,” Cease said. “It was crazy because it was figuring out the logistics and the team going to Korea, and that added huge wrinkle. It was a hectic day to say the least — exciting and hectic.”

After his "exciting and hectic" day, Cease made it to Padres camp and worked out before getting set for his flight.
He expressed his excitement to be in San Diego, a team always focused on winning.
“It’s hard to argue that the Padres haven’t (had a) 110-percent effort to try to build a team that’s a championship-level team,” Cease said. “And to me, that’s really exciting, to show the willingness to go all out and to think big and take bold action.”

Cease shores up a rotation in San Diego that had tons of question marks before the deal.
Although he struggled in 2023, he said he feels much better heading into 2024 — and the Padres are banking on that.
"I feel like I’m in a good spot right now. I feel like I’m locked in. I made some good adjustments. I mean, I’ve got a good feel right now. I’ve got a good command of everything."
