It’s no secret that the San Diego Padres have struggled out of the gate. For a team that was labeled the offseason winners due to them grabbing Xander Bogaerts and others, San Diego has flopped to start the year. Inconsistent offense has been the killer for this team, which is something that nobody saw coming.

The big four of Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Juan Soto and Bogaerts should allow this team to be much better. But as Kerry Killer of Bleacher Report put it below, they haven’t lived up to expectations thus far.

“The Friars have a lineup littered with black holes and a starting rotation that has been just kind of "meh" across the board”

San Diego spent a ton of money to build what many would call a super team but they are now seeing that it doesn’t always work this way. Soto hasn’t been great since the team acquired him last trade deadline, Tatis has been up and down, Machado spent some time on the injured list and Bogaerts has been good but not what the team expected when they signed him to a massive contract last winter.

Weirdly, it has been the pitching that has kept them afloat but entering the season, most people would agree that the Padres pitching staff was their biggest weakness. The starters have looked much better lately and for the teams sake, they need to keep it up.

On paper, the Padres rotation looks good. But not many trust them to keep up the great start as the season goes on.

There is still a ton of season left to be played and the Padres seem like a sleeping giant. Well, it’s time for them to wake up and be the team that everyone expected them to be.
