How the Padres and SDSU Are Uniting the City of San Diego
It's an amazing time to be a sports fan in San Diego right now. The Padres have just kicked off their 2023 season and have been claimed as a heavy favorite to win the World Series for the first time in franchise history. However, the city is seeing some major success in the basketball world as well.
SDSU is currently in the midst of a legendary run in the NCAA March Madness tournament and have reached the Final Four for the first time in their school's history. They will face off against the Florida Atlantic Owls as they try to reach the championship game.
Your Friars have made sure that they have all the support possible heading into their big match and have put together 'San Diego Super Sports Saturday.' It is an event that will be hosted at Petco Park so fans can come early before their own game against the Rockies and support the Aztecs.
San Diego hasn't been considered a city of sports for a couple of years by many so it's great to see our Padres supporting another team that is pushing boundaries right now. Fans will get to enjoy another great experience before watching their squad hit the field.
However, the support for SDSU went beyond just this organized event. Numerous Friars players showed up early to Petco Park on Friday rocking the jerseys of the Aztecs and speaking on what the school's success means to the San Diego.
Most of our guys were rocking Kawhi Leonard's jersey from when he played with SDSU. The current NBA superstar logged two seasons with them in his collegiate career and averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Leonard now plays for a former San Diego team in the Clippers and has won two championships in his NBA career along with five All-Star game appearances.
We are all hoping to see both the Aztecs and Padres win a ring this year !
