Former San Diego Padres star outfielder Juan Soto was officially introduced as a member of the New York Yankees on Tuesday, and he had some interesting comments. He didn't want to focus on anything other than just being a member of the Yankees.

During his press conference, Soto sent a message to the Yankees' front office when asked about a potential extension. Being a client of big-time agent Scott Boras, it's unlikely that Soto agrees to any extension unless it's too good to turn down.

“Any contract stuff,’’ Soto said, “they know where to call, who to talk to. I’m just here to play baseball…"

Soto isn't worried about his contract, because he knows that he will get paid next offseason. He is in line for one of the largest deals in baseball history, so right now, he is just focusing on playing baseball.

He likely wants to see how he fits in with the Yankees before making any decisions. Soto will be committing long-term to an organization, and it can take some time to feel comfortable in a new place.

“My mindset is coming here to play baseball and try to win a championship.”

Soto understands that he has a chance to compete for a championship with the Yankees, so he is trying to take full advantage of that. Playing alongside a superstar like Aaron Judge gives New York a dynamic one-two punch.

Being a Yankee is a different feeling than any other franchise in baseball. It's one of the premier organizations in all of sports, so Soto is trying to take that in and fully embrace it.
