Former San Diego Padres star outfielder Juan Soto was officially introduced as a member of the New York Yankees on Tuesday, and he spoke about what it means to be with the team. While he enjoyed his time with San Diego, he said that playing for the Yankees has a different feeling to it.

“It’s just a different feeling,” Soto said of playing in New York. “Definitely a great vibe, a great feeling to be playing in New York and in that stadium—the fans, the crowd is just incredible. Even when they weren’t cheering for me, they were really booing me and everything. I really enjoyed my time there. It was pretty cool for me.”

Playing in the city of New York is different than any other place in the world. It's a vibrant city, full of so much history. And being a member of the Yankees is a different story in and of itself.

Like the Los Angeles Lakers or Dallas Cowboys in other leagues, the Yankees are the premier franchise in baseball. It's a brand that could stand alone if need be, and Soto is going to have the chance to experience that firsthand.

He also said that winning is all he cares about. Soto has seen major success over his career — winning a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019 — and he is hoping to bring that with him to New York.

“I’m more than excited to go from one team that has the chance to win a championship to another one,” Soto said. “Winning, that’s all I care about. I come to the field thinking about winning every day, and that’s what I wanted to do. I got a little taste of it in 2019.”

It's never easy for a team to trade a superstar, but the Padrers were able to get a nice haul back for him. The front office is doing what it can to field a competitive team next season, and that is all fans can ask for.
