Juan Soto Rumors: Insider Proposes Padres Trade Superstar to American League West
The biggest storyline surrounding the San Diego Padres is what they will do with star outfielder Juan Soto. There has been a ton of buzz around a potential Soto trade this offseason, and the team has been trying to figure out what direction they want to go.
MLB writer Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed trade packages for Soto and had him heading to the Pacific Northwest in one deal. Miller listed the Seattle Mariners as one of the top landing spots for Soto if he is moved.
“Trade Package: RHP Emerson Hancock, OF Jonatan Clase, 1B/3B Tyler Locklear for Juan Soto”
Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report
The Mariners do have a need in the outfield, especially with them possibly moving on from Teoscar Hernández. Soto could fill the void, and give Seattle another star to work with.
They are one of the better young teams across the league, and Soto could thrive playing in Seattle. He would likely enjoy playing there alongside some of the better young stars like himself, and if the team could retain him, they would be set up for a while.
“The Mariners would run a risk if they trade for Soto and fail to get a long-term deal in place. San Diego can certainly attest to that. But the chance to make it happen should be too enticing to pass up. It could make them not just one of the contenders, but the singular favorite to win the American League for the foreseeable future.”
Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report
For the Padres they could get out from under a potential Soto deal to lower some cap space and would bring in some solid prospects to work with. The team could flip them elsewhere, or try to see what they have in them for some good, young talent on the roster.
Seattle seems keen on making a splash this offseason after missing the postseason last year, and Soto could be their big prize. If San Diego did a deal with the Mariners, they would send Soto out of the National League, meaning that they wouldn’t see him as much for the foreseeable future.
