MLB Commentator Claims Padres Have Always Been San Diego’s Only Sports Team
One of the best parts of baseball games is easily the commentating. When the perfect pair is put together to call the matches play-by-play, fans find themselves enjoying a mix of energetic reactions, classic stories in between pitches, and some hot takes here and there.
Well, quite the hot take was given during the San Diego Padres' Sunday win over the Atlanta Braves. Both Karl Ravech and Eduardo Perez were on ESPN's Sunday Night crew and were having a conversation about the Padres' payroll of the future.
Amidst this, Ravech revealed that he believes the Friars have always been the only sports team in San Diego despite other professional franchises previously residing there such as the Chargers and Clippers.
Karl Ravech asked what changed in the Padres becoming a spending ball club:
Eduardo Perez: "They're the only team in town now".
Ravech: "They've always been the only team in town."

To take it a step further, San Diego State University Men's basketball team is just coming off a historic March Madness run that saw them make it all the way to the championship game. They are not a professional team technically, but their success is very obvious.
Then looking back at the Clippers and Chargers, they obviously are not in the city anymore but you can't just wipe away their history. We love the Padres and have all the hopes in the world for them this season but they have not been the only sports team ever in the city.
They certainly do dominate the market right now and if a World Series comes their way soon, more spending will likely follow.
