In this story:

The San Diego Padres currently sit at 21-26 on the year and even though they finally got a solid win on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox, tensions have still remained at an all-time high. Both the team executives and players have revealed frustrations to the media amidst a very disappointing start.

Manny Machado has been at the forefront of this and we aren't too surprised. He takes the game far more serious than most and that has led him to multiple All-Star teams and a $350 million contract. Unfortunately, he is nursing a hand fracture right now and it's led to some pretty harsh responses from him in the process.

But Machado has also always been very quick to defend the slumps that he and his fellow teammates have gone through in 2023. The pitch clock and other excuses have been used by him but most recently, he's been reminding everyone that they should take a look at 'the back of their baseball cards' if they need a reminder of their greatness.

These comments have not been received very well by fans whenever he says them. They are well-aware of the resume that he other guys like Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. hold and that is all the more reason why they would like to see some better offensive production.

Padres' radio host Darren Smith has also been among the experts that does not agree with Machado's choice to make such a reference as he thinks it only applies to him

"It's interesting when Manny says that sort of stuff," said Smith. "Manny's primarily talking about Manny. But if we were to look at the back of the baseball card for some of these other guys, I don't know if it's telling a dramatically different story than what we're actually seeing."

It is clear as day that the Friars are doing everything they can to get back on track and Machado is solely focused on recovering during his IL stint.

I understand that he wants respect from the MLB world while his squad figures it out and they have a great opportunity to start a streak against the Washington Nationals.
