Padres Manager Mike Shildt Wants to Win a World Series for Peter Seidler
The San Diego Padres formally announced Mike Shildt as their new manager, and the team couldn't be more excited.
During his introductory press conference, Shildt spoke about the Padres late owner Peter Seidler, who recently just passed away. He talked about wanting to deliver a World Series to the franchise in memory of Seidler.
“I’m going to be a big part of helping carry his vision for the San Diego Padres moving forward to ultimately us winning a first world championship, a World Series championship for the San Diego Padres and for the City of San Diego, and I’m really excited about it,” Shildt said. “That’ll be one way we can remember the great legacy of Peter Seidler.”

If the Padres were to win the World Series this coming season, it would be special. We all wish Seidler was still here, but this is the best thing that the franchise could do for him.
Shildt has been around the organization for a little bit now, and he understands what Seidler meant to it. All he wanted to do was build a consistent winner in San Diego, and he was on the cusp of doing so.
Padres president of baseball operations A.J. Preller spoke on Seidler as well, and you could tell that the late owner was on everyone's mind.
“Me personally, an amazing boss, mentor, friend,” the Padres president of baseball operations said. “I think our main connection, we shared the love of the game of baseball and coaches, players, definitely the fans."

Seidler meant so much to the entire city of San Diego and the Padres franchise. They were his world, and all he wanted was to see them win.
Despite the down year in 2023, the Padres have been one of the better teams around the league of late. Hopefully, they can build off everything from the last part of the season and hit the ground running to kick off 2024.
