Padres News: Fernando Tatis Jr Feels He Left a Lot on the Table This Season
Despite missing the first part of the baseball season, San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. put together a great season. Through 135 games played, Tatis Jr. has hit .262 with 25 home runs and 78 runs batted in.
While the stats aren’t up to his usual level of dominance, Tatis Jr. has been consistent for the Padres this year. Amid all of the struggles that the team has seen, he has continued to show up each day and produce.
However, he knows that he left a lot on the table this year. He holds himself to a very high standard, so anything that doesn’t exactly meet his level is seen as a down year for him.
“I don’t think it was a drop in power, because I was still hitting balls 440 feet. It was more of, you know, just putting the barrel on the ball. I missed a lot of pitches that should have had better results.”

It took him a minute to get going, and the team as a whole struggled all year long. That did play into some things and affected his production as the year went on.
But he persevered through it all, and put together a good year. He knows that it could be better and he is looking forward to next season when he can take things up a notch.
“It was a good year for any baseball player, any guy that stepped on the field,” Tatis said. “Everybody knows I can do double or probably triple that, what I’ve done this year. I’m really looking forward to next year on that.”

Next season has the feel of a full bounce-back year for both Tatis Jr. and the Padres. They both left a lot on the table this year, and it cost them down the stretch of the year. But now, they get the offseason to figure out what went wrong and make sure that it doesn't happen ever again.
