Padres News: Friars Held Long Players Only Meeting After Another Disappointing Loss
Sensing a vital part of their season wasn't going to plan, San Diego players huddled together for a prolonged exclusive meeting to hash out some negative feelings over their recent poor play.
Following their most recent loss to the Seattle Mariners, Padres third baseman Manny Machado was one of several on the team to voice their frustrations with their current record.
“Whenever you talk amongst each other is when you figure things out,” Machado said. “Ultimately, it’s all up to us. There’s 26 guys that are in here we believe in. It’ll take all 26 of us to get to where we want to get to. Everyone in here has confidence in each other, we’ve been pulling the same rope. We’ve just got to play better baseball.”

According to superstar left fielder Juan Soto, it sounds as if the Padres have already given up, though he too suffered the worst game of his career in this series against the Mariners.
Right fielder and young star Fernando Tatis Jr. hasn't had much luck either, being robbed of yet another homer earlier in the series and going 0-4 with two strikeouts in the most recent loss.
GM AJ Preller decided to buy at the deadline, but despite Scott Barlow specifically being brought in to shore up some bullpen depth, the former Royal has contributed to more losses than wins for his new team.
Given the excitement around the roster littered with star power, the Padres currently sit well below expectations lobbied onto them for a preseason NL West crown and perhaps a league pennant.
Instead, the Friars now find themselves floundering in the divisional standings to the Dodgers, Giants and Diamondbacks on top of lagging far behind in the Wild Card chase.
Should this losing streak continue, the Padres could be looking at some big changes in the offseason.
