Padres News: Friars Made Statcast History in Colorado
The San Diego Padres had a wild couple days in Colorado this week.
They lost the opening game of the series on Monday in walk-off fashion thanks to a pivotal mistake by the usual perfect Manny Machado at third base.
Then, they went all-in at the trade deadline with five additions on Tuesday, before the team's impressive 8-5 Game 2 win.
And then, they carried that momentum into Wednesday with a dominant 11-1 win in which the Padres hit five home runs, and made history along the way. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the Padres hit five home runs that all went at least 425 feet, becoming the first time in the Statcast era to accomplish that feat.
Statcast began tracking in 2015, and the Padres are officially the first team to do something like that.
This was the fourth game in which the Padres hit five home runs at the hitters ballpark that is Coors Field, and the second time this season.
With that, they became the only visiting team to have multiple five-homer games at Coors Field in one season since the Chicago Cubs in 2002.
The Padres will hope to continue this momentum over the weekend when they welcome the NL West leading Dodgers into town for four huge games.
Here are the five mammoth, record-breaking home runs the Padres hit on Wednesday:
