Your San Diego Padres would love to forget about Friday night's game and make up for it the next day. The beauty of baseball is they get to do just that on Saturday. The Friars got embarrassed on their home diamond by the Milwaukee Brewers, 11-2, and dropped their eighth game of the season. Everything was non-existent for San Diego, and on top of that, the former Padre, Eric Lauer, had his way with the Friars.

Lauer has gotten off to a bad start in 2023, but you couldn't tell Friday night as he was dissecting the Padres lineup. Lauer had it, and give him credit where credit is due, but this Padres lineup is too talented to go on these types of droughts. Friars skipper Bob Melvin knows that and talked about his offenses inconsistencies after the game with San Diego Tribunes Jeff Sanders

“For us, it’s a matter of time, but there also has to be some urgency, too,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said Friday afternoon. “We’ve had a couple good offensive games. We should probably have more, and we probably will. But it’s kind of breaking through that and having two, three, four games in a row of having good offensive days. It shouldn’t matter a lot of the times with the pitching. This team’s built to hit. So it’s about time we start to get going, right?”

San Diego dropped their third game in a row and have combined for seven runs in those games. This lineup is too talented to be going through inconsistencies like this. You could point to the easy cop-out of, "That's just baseball," or "It's barely April," but that's unacceptable, and Melvin knows it.

Maybe this is just a dry spell the Friars are going through, but it's upsetting to see after a weekend, the offense looked superior against a legit championship contender.

Help is on the way soon, but regardless, this offense should still be thriving. Still, a ton of games left, but let's get on the right track, offense.
