It has been a very trying season for the San Diego Padres. They entered it with the hope of truly contending this year, but things just haven’t gone their way.

The team has been looking up in the standings all season long, and it has caused much frustration throughout. Players and coaches have had to come to the defense of each other, and the weight of the expectations has seen them crumble.

San Diego put together a strong roster on paper, but it hasn’t translated to on-field success. The team still plays for one another and won’t quit, but it hasn’t been easy.

Recently starting pitcher Joe Musgrove defended his manager Bob Melvin on the season that the team has had. There have been rumors that Melvin could be fired after the season ends.

“We don’t think that Bob’s the problem here”

It’s good to see that the players have the back of their manager, even through the tough times here. After all, they are the ones who are on the field and have underperformed.

Melvin does deserve some blame for the struggles this season, but without him, this team could have fallen apart even more. He is a good, veteran manager that has seen a ton of success in this league.

If the team did decide to part ways with him after the year, they then would need to find someone who is just as good as he is. And that would be a tall task for this ballclub.

People around the league watch to see how teams operate and how they treat others. So, it may not be the best look for the Padres to be getting rid of another manager.

The organization has a ton of tough choices to make down the stretch of the season and into the winter. The fate of their future depends on it, and we could see a very different look to the Friars next season.
