San Diego Padres star pitcher Joe Musgrove is finally back and looking like his old self, kind of. The start to the season didn't go as Musgrove pictured it; he started in the IL due to a toe fracture he suffered in February and has had some mishaps go his way.

He's started in three games thus far, and outside of the Mexico City start, he's been adequate in one start and phenomenal in his latest start against the Dodgers on Sunday. Joe is still getting his feet wet and hopes his semi-rehab days are over in the near future. He told Padres insider Kevin Acee he hopes to stay healthy for the rest of the season.

“I feel like in between every start I’m spending the majority of my time in the training room trying to get something worked out and get it serviceable to be able to pitch,” he said. “But this week is hopefully the last of that, and hopefully we can get a little more consistency and stay healthy throughout the rest of year.”

Musgrove has gone 1-0 in three starts with a 6.75 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and a 1.43 WHIP in 13.1 innings. His ERA skyrocketed in his Mexico City, where the two teams combined for 30 hits, 11 home runs, and 27 total runs.

Joe has had a ton of roadblocks to start the 2023 season, but he hopes those days are behind him. His third start was his best start, and he said he felt really good.

“Overall, I liked the way I threw the ball, I liked the way my stuff played out."

Let's hope the good version of Joe is here to stay.
