As the MLB season winds down over these last few weeks, it seems that the San Diego Padres have decided to finally show up. After an entire season of them trying to figure things out, the Friars are now playing some of their best baseball of the season.

It has helped them keep their season alive, and hold onto hope for a potential playoff spot. But with only a limited amount of time left, the Padres will need to continue putting together strong games and get some help from the multiple teams ahead of them in the standings.

One player in particular has been key in this surge from the Padres, and that would be star outfielder Juan Soto. Soto was special last week, and his efforts awarded him National League Player of the Week honors.

Soto hit .484 with four home runs and 13 runs batted over six games for the Padres. San Diego went 5-1 during that time period, and it was great to see.

On the year, the star is hitting .266 with 32 home runs and 98 runs batted in. It has been an incredible season for Soto, and he has been one of their more consistent players all season long.

The Padres are going to need him to continue this level of production if they are going to get back into playoff contention. They can’t do it without him, and they already are dealing with numerous other injuries to some key players.

Soto has carried this San Diego offense for the last bit of time, and he has a chance to do it again. Even if they can’t get back into contention, he could still finish the year off strong, and build something entering into the offseason.

It should be a fun final few weeks for the Padres, and for Soto, as they head toward the finish line.
