Padres News: Manny Machado Admits He Doesn't Know How He'd Fix Friars
The curious case of the 2023 San Diego Padres season continues as the team dropped their opening game of their series against the New York Mets. It's the last series before the All-Star break and San Diego was riding a three-game winning streak. The team is now 0-8 in extra inning games this season and their weird season keeps going.
Entering the year, the Friars had World Series hopes after a strong playoff performance last season and a good offseason to boost their roster. But it has been an inconsistent showing from the team all year long and if they don't start winning games soon, it will go down as one of the biggest letdowns in recent memory.
Star third baseman Manny Machado was asked about fixing the teams issues prior to the game against New York and even he shared that he was unsure of what to do.
“I’ve stepped down from trying to put (on) the GM hat or think what we need on this ball club,” Machado said. “To me, I wouldn’t even know what to do. But as a team, we’ve got to stay focused, stay motivated and continue to improve and get better every single day."

Like others in the organization, Machado is trying to keep the positivity amid all the struggles. But the losses keep mounting for this team and after each one, the pressure gets even stronger.
Manager Bob Melvin gave his thoughts after the loss to the Mets about what went wrong and it seems that this is becoming almost a daily occurrence for this team.
“It is what it is,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “I mean we can’t get past it. But I mean to give up four runs in the 10
th
, it’s going to be a tough one to come back from.”

San Diego has two more games to try and salvage the series with the Mets and build some sort of momentum into the All-Star break. They can't afford to keep dropping games, especially to teams that are right near them in the standings.
There is time to turn things around with the long schedule but things are starting to look bleak for this ball club. Something needs to change and in a hurry otherwise this will turn into a lost season.
