Dealing with an elbow issue for the past few months, one of the Padres' biggest stars missed time earlier due to his injury and surgery appears to be on the way.

Opting to have a procedure to begin the healing process as soon as possible, Manny Machado's timeline has been revealed, with many fans wondering why the infielder refused to get it done sooner.

Though he returned to face his old team in the Dodgers, many surrounding the organization have wondered why the third baseman wouldn't just focus on next year due to a slim chance that the team could even return to the postseason.

Amidst other issues with his character and questions about his competitive fire, Machado's elbow has recently been the least of his concerns in the media.

Clubbing two home runs against his old club in Los Angeles had to feel good on a personal level for Machado, but for his near future, the issue concerning his health might hurt his production for 2024.

Machado's elbow isn't the only one on the list hurting on the Padres roster as Yu Darvish's own elbow has shut him down for the year in San Diego's rotation.

Like every other team in the league, injuries have affected the Padres in a major way, but Joe Musgrove's absence from the team's pitching core has also hurt their chances in the NL West.

As it currently stands, the club sits fourth in the NL West, though the team is on its longest win streak of the year at four games.

With Machado's teammate Juan Soto playing some of his best baseball of the season with just weeks remaining, the playoffs are still on the table for the team.

No matter how unlikely it may be, Machado's presence in the lineup means he wants to see it through despite his ailing elbow condition.
