Between the teams that have struggled to start the 2023 season, there are only a few that many in the game believe can go on a run and reach the postseason. Luckily for the San Diego Padres, they are one of those teams.

After a strong offseason, the Padres were seen as a potential World Series contender with major expectations. However, they have failed to live up to those expectations so far and find themselves buried in the standings as we approach the trade deadline.

The Padres will have some choices to make but one thing is for certain: They have the talent on the roster to make a run. It will take the team coming together but they can absolutely do it.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes in the Friars as well and listed them as a team that is primed to make a second half run.

"...the Padres are right at the outer limit of what we've seen happen in the past decade. But it has happened."

Per Bleacher Report

You can never say never in sports, but especially within baseball. If the team can put together a few solid weeks of play then they could get back into the mix.

But the issue is that they haven't been able to put together long runs of looking like the team that many expected them to be. They have been incredibly inconsistent this season and it has plagued them.

San Diego needs to start putting together consecutive winning series and maybe, just maybe, they can make a run towards the postseason. At this point, that's definitely wishful thinking, though.
