Padres News: Top AL Clubhouse Could Look to Trade For Juan Soto
The San Diego Padres pulled off possibly the biggest move of all time last summer when they acquired lefty superstar slugger Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals. It was a king's ransom, but it was hard to resist for a superstar talent like that.
Soto's time in the brown and gold has been average at best. His numbers across the board have dipped, and he has yet to find his groove in Southern California. Could the Padres move off of Soto already and get some pieces back? Lyndon Suvanto of Sportskeeda thinks a trade could happen and lists MLB's royalty franchise, the New York Yankees, as a possible site.
Soto would be a perfect fit for the Yankees as they have a glaring weakness in the outfield. Pairing Soto and Aaron Judge could form one of the most feared duos in baseball, something which would not be difficult to convince fans to support.
Luckily for the New York Yankees, they possess a wealth of top-tier prospects that could tempt the Padres to go through with the deal. Prospects such as
Jasson Dominguez
, Oswald Peraza, and Austin Wells would all likely be in play if the Bronx Bombers were to land Soto.
This is just a rumor, Padre fans. I don't believe the Padres did all that just to give up on Soto a year or two later. He's doing a bit better and has had a string of games where he looks like his old self, but he will need to sustain that type of play.
Soto will be a free agent come 2025 and is set to have a big payday. We're not sure if that will be with the Padres, but Padres GM AJ Preller and company will do all they can to retain him despite all the money they owe their other superstars.
