The Padres should have been obvious buyers at this point in the season after putting together one of the most expensive rosters in Major League Baseball.

With two days to go before the Aug. 1 trade deadline, it still isn't clear what the Padres will do — particularly with star pitchers Blake Snell and Josh Hader, whose contracts expire after this season.

As we are so close to finding out exactly where the Padres stand on the remainder of their season, trade speculation is at an all-time high.

Here's a trade proposal that caught our eye from MLB.com's Brett Maguire: the Padres send Snell, Hader and pitcher Seth Lugo for five of the Orioles' top prospects, Connor Norby, Coby Mayo, Cade Povich, Seth Johnson and Jud Fabian.

This would be undoubtedly the biggest trade of the season, with the Padres getting rid of a Cy Young-caliber starting pitcher in Snell, one of the game's best closers in Hader and a strong starter in Lugo.

For the Orioles, it would show their commitment to going all-in this season. Their farm system has been one of the best in MLB and is the reason they are in position to win the AL East for the first time since 2014.

The Padres would be, in essence, giving up on the 2023 season, but they would at least be receiving a haul of prospects that could one day make a major difference in San Diego.

The likelihood of a trade of this magnitude going through is low. The latest from the Padres makes it seem as if they are set on keeping their roster together.

But hey, speculation season has two more days left, so have fun with the trade rumors while they last!
