Padres Rumors: Writer Puts Together Trade Package to Send Juan Soto to New York
The San Diego Padres are still trying to figure out what they want to do with star outfielder Juan Soto as he enters the final year of his contract. Many have expected that the team will move him this winter, but there have also been conflicting reports about a trade.
There has been a ton of smoke about a potential trade sending Soto to the New York Yankees, but there is another team in New York that makes some sense. The Mets could use a bat like Soto in their lineup, and they have the finances to retain him long-term.
MLB writer Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report put together landing spots for Soto, and the Mets came in the top five of the list. They put together a trade package between the teams, and New York could be a solid spot for the star outfielder.
“Trade Package: OF Alex Ramírez, RHP José Butto and RHP Justin Jarvis for Juan Soto”
Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report
San Diego would receive a few prospects for Soto, and they could then use them to get another player. Or they could save them and hope that one turns into a good player in the major leagues.
The Mets vastly underperformed last season, and it could see them use this offseason to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Landing Soto could be the big move for them, and he would fit in well in the lineup for the Mets. They need a corner outfielder, and every team needs a power-hitting left-hander in their lineup.
“But put Soto in that lineup and the Mets immediately become a World Series contender again.”
Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report
The Mets are expected to be involved in most of the top-tier free agents, but they may not want to pay top dollar after the year they just put together. Getting a star like Soto via trade could make sense for this team, and they have the talent to make it happen.
“After all of the trades they made a few months ago, the Mets have a nice stockpile of MLB-ready prospects whom they could offer the Padres. They could still be left with a solid farm system afterward, too.”
Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report
The Mets are a sleeping giant, and their owner Steve Cohen could wake up one morning and decide that he wants Soto on the team. It remains to be seen what will happen with the outfielder, but a trade seems more and more like a possibility as time goes on.
