Padres Superstar Looking Forward to New Position for Remainder of 2023
Don't look now, but your San Diego Padres are on a mini streak. In the first of three last night, the Friars defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 8-3, at their home ballpark.
San Diego is finally back at Petco Park since April 19, and this was Fernando Tatis Jr.'s first game back since his 80-game suspension. The crowd went wild for their 24-year-old superstar, and rightfully so. It's been over 500 days since he last played in San Diego, and he found himself in a new position. The former shortstop is now playing right field; Fernando was asked about the room in right field and said he's looking forward to covering the ground.
"A lot. I feel like I'm going to be doing that a lot this year, and I'm looking forward to it."
Tatis made a phenomenal catch out in right field late in the game last night, which got the crowd going. His debut back in Petco Park was memorable, as he went 3-for-5 with one run scored and singled in all his hits.
Tatis is electric in both the batter's box and on the diamond. He's athletic and can become an above-average defender if he allows himself to be. The Padres are going to need his bat and glove to get to where they want to go.
We're happy he's back and playing in front of the crowd he'll be with for the next decade.
