Philadelphia Phillies Squeak Out Close Win Over Rockies on Saturday
The Philadelphia Phillies won a close one against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday afternoon as they finished a 4-3 win in front of a packed Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies (10-12) are inching closer to the .500 mark and Saturday was an encouraging performance that showed plenty of fight.
In need of a sixth starter, Cristopher Sanchez was activated from the injured list and was brought up from Tiple-A Lehigh Valley where he was rehabbing to make the start.
Sanchez turned in a 4.1 innings pitched, three earned run performance. He did exactly what was asked of him and gave Philadelphia a chance to win the game.
The Phillies bullpen consisting of Connor Borgdon, Gregory Soto, Seranthony Dominguez and Craig Kimbrel held the Rockies scoreless through 4.2 innings. Brogdon was credited with the win.
All four of Philadelphia's runs came via Nick Castellanos and newcomer Cristian Pache. The former hit his first two home runs of the season, both solo shots and notched a double. His home run in the sixth inning gave the Phillies a lead they would never relinquish.
Pache also hit a home run, his first of the season and the fifth of his career.
It was an encouraging performance from the Phillies squad who kept it close and fought to the end for a win.
They will go for the series win on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. Zack Wheeler will be taking the mound for Philadelphia and is slated to face Jose Urena of the Rockies. It is an enticing matchup for the Phillies.
First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. ET.
