MLB Names Brock Porter 'Hottest' Texas Rangers Prospect

Two months into his first pro season, fourth-round pick Brock Porter is giving the Texas Rangers their money's worth in Class-A.

Texas Rangers prospect Brock Porter is considered the organization’s hottest pitching prospect, per MLB.com.

The 19-year-old right-hander was highlighted on an MLB list of the hottest pitching prospect for each of the game’s 30 teams.

Porter is pitching his first professional season for the Low Class-A affiliate Down East Wood Ducks.

From MLB.com:

Gatorade's 2022 national high school player of the year, Porter shattered the fourth-round bonus record when he signed for $3.7 million last July. He hasn't allowed an earned run in his last four starts and 14 1/3 innings in Single-A, striking out 19 during that span. Armed with a mid-90s fastball, plus changeup and improving slider, he sports an overall 1.21 ERA, .141 opponent average and 31 strikeouts in 22 1/3 frames.

After that story was filed, Porter made a start on Friday against Carolina, where he threw three innings of hitless baseball and struck out four. That lowered his season ERA to 1.07. He left the game in line for the win, which would be his first as a pro.

Porter has already earned Top 100 prospect status at MLB.com, one of five current Rangers prospects in the Top 100.

Some scouts projected Porter as the top high school pitcher in the draft and the Rangers selected him from St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) even though they didn’t have a second- or third-round pick.

He’s a two-time Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2022 national Gatorade Player of the Year. He went 9-0 with a 0.41 ERA, 115 strikeouts in 58 innings and three no-hitters in 2022.
