The Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays just didn’t start a three-game series Friday between the two best teams in the American League.

It was also family reunion for Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, Rays outfielder Josh Lowe and their parents, David and Wendy.

The four of them posed for photos before the game, as it marked the first time the Lowe brothers were on opposing MLB rosters.

Nathaniel started at first base for the Rangers. Josh wasn’t in the lineup on Friday.

The Rays won 8-3 at Tropicana Field.

The pair were part of the Rays organization before Nathaniel was traded to the Rangers in 2021. Entering Friday’s game, Nathaniel was batting .279 with seven home runs and 37 RBI, along with a .355 on-base percentage and a .443 slugging percentage.

“To have a moment come to fruition like this after so many years of hard work and dedication, not from just the both of us, but these two and then the entire group,” Nathaniel said, referring to their parents, according to MLB.com. “There’s so many people that we owe thank-yous to, to get to this point. … It’s a real blessing.”

Josh, meanwhile, is off to a fine start, batting .295 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI, along with a .340 on-base percentage and a .546 slugging percentage.

“It’s just an awesome moment to be here on the field with my parents, my brother. It’s something we’ve dreamed about since being little kids, being on a Major League field,” Josh said. “We never knew we’d be on the same Major League field. It’s just an awesome moment.”

Interviewed by MLB.com before the game, the elder Lowe said that because of the two brothers’ competitiveness — not only with each other — there are certain things they can’t do together anymore.

“They’re brothers, they love each other, but now when they play golf I'm almost ready to kill both of them because they’ll say, ‘Hey that ball moved, you need to take a stroke for that,’” David Lowe said. “They’re ultra-competitive and it drives me nuts to a certain extent, but when you look back on it, them being driven that’s why my two kids are chasing their dreams and doing some really cool things.”
