Bruce Bochy Ejected First Time as Texas Rangers Manager Against Astros
The Texas Rangers suffered a tough 8-2 loss against the Houston Astros on Saturday. It was a night marred by injury, as Rangers starter Jon Gray thought his arm was broke by a line drive, poor relief pitching and lack of offense.
It was an ugly affair.
And it all came to a head when Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was ejected by home plate umpire Erich Bacchus during the seventh inning. The Astros scored five runs in the frame as everything unraveled for Texas.
Bochy took issue with what he thought was a missed strike call by Bacchus, whose accuracy and consistency at the plate was called into question numerous times during the game.
Bacchus tossed Bochy while he was still in the dugout. The 68-year-old manager proceeded to come up the steps and get into with the umpire before exiting the game.
It was the 78th ejection of Bochy's career.
“It just got out of hand there in that seventh inning,” Bochy said. “And that's a tough one because we had [Gray] throwing the ball really well, had a lead and unfortunately it did happen.”
The Rangers (8-6) will get the chance for a series victory over Houston (7-8) on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
