MLB Pipeline recently re-ranked its Top 100 prospects and the Top 30 prospects in each farm system. It also looked into its crystal ball and put together a list of one player from each organization that figures to be the No. 1 prospect at the start of the 2025 season.

For the Texas Rangers, the site chose 2023 first-round pick Wyatt Langford, who is currently at High Class-A Hickory.

Why?

Langford signed for a Rangers-record $8 million as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 Draft after starring at Florida, topping NCAA Division I with 28 doubles and 52 extra-base hits while taking the Gators to the College World Series finals this spring. He features well-above-average power to all fields and is also a disciplined hitter with solid speed.

He’s put together a fine start to his time in professional baseball. Through his first 11 games with Hickory, Wyatt slashed .289/.449/.579/1.028 with a home run and six RBI. He drew 10 walks against 10 strikeouts and scored eight times while playing primarily center field.

Before Hickory, he spent three games with the Arizona Complex League Rangers where he slashed .385/.429/.846/1.275 with a home run and four RBI.

Through his first 14 professional games Langford slashed .314/.444/.647/1.091 with two home runs and 10 RBI.

When MLB Pipeline did its re-rank, Langford moved into the Top 100 at No. 13 and No. 2 in the Rangers’ Top 30. He is projected as the No. 6 outfield prospect in baseball.

The site also projects Langford as a 2025 call-up, meaning it believes that outfielder Evan Carter, the Rangers’ No. 1 overall prospect, will get called up sooner.

Langford was a standout in his final two seasons with the Gators.

As a sophomore at Florida he batted .356/.447/.719 while matching the school record with 26 home runs.

As a junior he batted .373/.498/.784 with 21 home runs and 56 extra-base hits.

While at the Men’s College World Series in June, he batted .375 with seven extra-base hits, three home runs and nine RBI, including a six-RBI outing in Game 2 of the College World Series final against LSU.
