Former Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland posted a message on social media after his Tommy John surgery earlier this week.

Holland said he would need surgery after tearing the UCL ligament in his throwing elbow the same day the Rangers announced that deGrom tore the UCL in his throwing elbow. deGrom also had surgery.

Dr. Keith Meister performed the operation. The Rangers’ team physical and surgeon did the same for deGrom.

“What’s up everybody,” Holland said. “I'm out of surgery. I'm already good to go. I just wanted to let everybody know I appreciate the love and the support from you guys. Big shout out to Dr. Meister and his crew taking care of me and getting me right. So the road to recovery starts now. I appreciate all the comments, messages, everything. I’ve had a lot of people reaching out to me. I'm very grateful for that. Ron Washington, thank you so much man. I love you. That's dad. He reached out to me, sent me a nice strong message, so I appreciate that. And the love of all the baseball community and all the people around helping me out and just talking me through it. Which, you know, it's been fun. It's a nice little journey here that we're about to embark on. It sucks but we are here, I'm very grateful for you guys and the love and support. So thank you all. The road to recovery starts now. Let's have some fun.”

Holland was attempting a comeback with the independent York Revolution, part of the Atlantic League. He made his debut in late May, striking out the side in his first appearance. That helped the Revolution hold on for a 6-5 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Holland didn’t pitch in Majors in 2022, though he spent time in both Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox organizations. His last MLB season was 2021, going 3-2 with a 5.07 ERA for the Detroit Tigers.

Holland spent eight years with the Rangers starting in 2009, going 62-50 with a 4.35 ERA. In 2011, he led the American League with four shutouts and went 16-5 as the Rangers reached their second consecutive World Series.
