Bruce Bochy Calls Out Texas Rangers For Not Being 'Locked In'
This is the time of season where all the Texas Rangers should focused on the task at hand. There are 12 games left and a playoff berth at stake.
But there’s a problem with focus. A big problem.
“It’s fair to say we’ve got some guys not locked in, that’s just being honest,” Bochy said. “It’s not quite the at-bats that we’re used to getting. It’s a case of good pitching, too, ... but at the same time, we’re a really good hitting ballclub and we’re not clicking.”
The Rangers managed just five hits in Monday’s 4-2 loss to Boston Red Sox to open the year’s last homestand. The series continues Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.
Bochy didn’t mention who wasn’t “locked in,” but a scan of the last four box scores isn’t too flattering for the club’s big bats.
Corey Seager, fourth in the American League with a .334 batting average, is just 1-for-15 since the current four-game losing started at the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Jonah Heim (0-9), Nathaniel Lowe (3-14) and Mitch Garver (1-16) are also scuffling.
Marcus Semien is a respectable 4-for-14, with two hits coming Monday. Josh Jung and Adolis García returned from the injured list and were a combined 1-for-7.
Texas (82-68) has fallen into a tie with the Seattle Mariners for the third and final Wild Card berth. During the skid that dropped the Rangers from a nice cushion as the second Wild Card, the team has scored just eight runs.
“We’re just not getting a lot of guys on base and some strikeouts involved,” Bochy added. “The rest of the way, we’re going to have to find a way to get this offense clicking a little better.”
