Acosta, a Caracas, Venezuela native, is No. 25 Texas prospect per MLB.com. He’s projected as a middle infielder and is just 20 years old.

He’s coming off a homestand for High-Class A Hickory in which he batted .563 with nine hits, five runs, two RBI, two stolen bases, two walks and a .611 on-base percentage.

But that’s been the way he’s been hitting all season.

After 36 games, Acosta is slashing .314/.369/.453/.822 with seven doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He has the ninth-best batting average in the South Atlantic League among qualified hitters. He is also tied for 11th in stolen bases.

Acosta has built statistically throughout his three-year pro baseball career. With Low-Class A Down East in 2022, he slashed .262/.341/.361/.702 with 26 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 35 RBI and 44 stolen bases.

With the rookie league team in Arizona in 2021, he slashed .246/.279/.393/.672 in 17 games, with a home run, five RBI and seven stolen bases.

The Rangers signed Acosta to a free agent deal on July 2, 2019, awarding him a $1.65 million signing bonus. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he didn’t get to take an at-bat in the organization until 2021.
