The Texas Rangers have three new Top 30 prospects after Baseball America released its re-ranked Top 30 organizational prospects earlier this month.

The re-rank was based on a variety of criteria, as Rangers prospects moved up and down the board.

Here are the three Rangers prospects added to the Top 30 and how they made the cut.

RHP Aidan Curry (No. 21)

Curry is one of those players that was unlucky enough to be in the 2020 draft when it was only five rounds. He signed a free-agent deal with the Rangers out of Fordham Prep in New York. Once the COVID cloud lifted, he spent 2021 and 2022 with the Rangers’ Arizona Complex League team. In his first full season with Class-A Down East, he’s 3-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 10 games (eight starts). The strikeout-to-walk numbers are intriguing. He’s fanned 61 against 18 walks.

SS Maximo Acosta (No. 29)

The Rangers signed him out of Venezuela in 2019 and the COVID pause of 2020 put a stunt in his development. Since he spent 2021 at the Arizona Complex League, his plate numbers have gotten better and better. After 53 games with High Class-A Hickory he slashed .283/.336/.385/.721 with four home runs and 28 RBIs. He’s still in development mode and is likely at least two years from seriously challenging for the Majors.

RHP Josh Stephan (No. 30)

Like Curry, Stephan was a free-agent signing in 2020. He played at South Grand Prairie High School, down the road from Arlington. In 2022, he caught everyone’s attention with a 6-5 record, 3.14 ERA, and 115 strikeouts with only 31 walks. He appears to have improved after 10 games (nine starts) at Hickory this season. He’s 4-3 with a 2.06 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and eight walks. His batting average against has dropped from .235 in 2021 to .219 in 2022 to .175 so far this season. There’s a lot to like.
