Mitch Garver Nearly Ready for Texas Rangers Return
Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver could be activated as soon as the team’s return from their current road trip, according to a published report.
Garver, a catcher and designated hitter, is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers return home to start a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday. Texas completes a series at the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday before a day off. The Rangers will have to make a corresponding roster move when Garver is activated.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Garver’s rehab stint has gone well. It has included five hits (with two home runs) and three games behind the plate.
Bochy said that the final step is to see Garver play a full game, which he has not done yet. He has typically left in the sixth or seventh inning, depending upon whether he’s catching or at DH.
Garver is expected to play two or three more games for the Express.
The Express were in Albuquerque last week, which was a nice homecoming for Garver. He’s an Albuquerque native and went to the University of New Mexico.
Round Rock is back home this week for a series with Sugar Land starting Tuesday.
Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. He was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury.
The Dallas Morning News reported the Garver update.
