Mythical Beast Peagle Debuts With Texas Rangers Nike City Connect Uniforms
The mythical Peagle, a mythical animal original to the Texas Rangers, makes its debut Friday night as the team takes the field in their new Nike City Connect uniforms.
The Rangers (12-6) open a three-game series with the Oakland Athletics (3-16) at Globe Life Field at 7:05 p.m. Texas will wear the new uniforms for the first two games.
The Peagle is a blend of the minor league mascots of the Fort Worth Panthers/Cats and the Dallas Eagles. The two teams were bitter rivals during the 1950s, but eventually the two clubs came together in 1965 and formed the Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs. The team played in Turnpike Stadium in Arlington before the Washington Senators relocated in 1972 and became the Texas Rangers.
Now, the Peagle pays tribute to that heritage.
So what's next for the Peagle?
Should is replace Rangers Captain as the official team mascot?
Perhaps theme nights and bobbleheads are coming soon?
For now, its just on the sleeve of the City Connect jerseys. Maybe one day the Peagle will take flight ... if it actually flies.
