Seattle Radio Host: Texas Rangers Aren't 'That Good'
Count Seattle sports radio talk show how Mike Salk among those who aren’t convinced the Texas Rangers are a good team.
Salk hosted his morning show on Seattle Sports with former NFL quarterback Brock Huard on Monday, the day after the Seattle Mariners were swept by the Rangers at Globe Life Field.
It was an impressive sweep. The Rangers shut out the Mariners 2-0 in the first game Friday. The Rangers offense — which has the best run differential in Major League Baseball and has scored more runs than any other team — beat the Mariners 16-6 on Saturday and 12-3 on Sunday.
That adds up to 30-9 for the weekend series.
When one of his co-hosts pointed out the run differential, Salk was, well, not impressed.
“What month is it? June?” he said.
When his co-host asked if it was “too early to say the Rangers were that good,” Salk not only believed it was too early, he basically dismissed the Rangers actually being good.
“Oh, I don’t think the Rangers are that good,” Salk said. “I think the Rangers are not gonna be …”
At that point, he was interrupted to ask if he thought the Rangers’ start was an aberration, and Salk said: “I think the Rangers are better obviously than they were last year.”
The Mariners were off on Monday. In spite of the sweep, Seattle is still within a half-dozen games of the final American League Wild Card spot entering a series with the San Diego Padres that starts Tuesday.
