Texas Rangers Name Adolis Garcia Player of Month

Adolis García had one of the best weeks of any offensive player in the Majors while racking up big numbers in April.
In this story:

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García was named the Rangers Player of the Month for April by the media that covers the team.

García was one of several Rangers that had a great April. Josh Jung was named the American League Rookie of the Month.

García batted .267 for the first month of the season, with eight home runs and 30 RBI. He also had an OPS of .855.

He had a huge week that earned him AL Player of the Week honors for the week of April 17-23.

In just five games that week, García batted .400/.458/.1.100/1.558 with four home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI and eight runs. His RBI total led all MLB players for the week. He led the AL for the week in home runs, extra-base hits and total bases. Only Rangers teammate Marcus Semien scored more runs (nine) that week than García.

In the April 22 game against Oakland, García went 5-for-5 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, five runs, 16 total bases and five extra-base hits. He was also hit by a pitch. García became the second player in MLB history to have five extra-base hits and eight RBI in one game.

García also became the third player in baseball's modern era (since 1901) with at least three home runs, eight RBI, five runs and 16 total bases in one game, joining Washington Nationals’ Anthony Rendon (April 30, 2017) and Brooklyn Dodgers’ Gil Hodges (Aug 31, 1950).

The batting helmet he used in that game was sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The AL West-leading Rangers (18-12) open a 10-game road trip through the division Friday at the Los Angeles Angels. The trek also includes stops at the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics.
