Texas Rangers Top AL West in Power Rankings

The Texas Rangers are the highest-ranked American League West team for the first time this season.

The Texas Rangers not only lead the American League West, they’re now actually considered the top team in the division.

In the latest Power Rankings from MLB.com, the Rangers are the highest-rated club in the AL West. Texas moved up three spots to No. 7 – its loftiest perch of the season so far.

In the jump, the Rangers leapfrogged the Houston Astros (9) for the first time. The defending champs fell from No. 6 last week.

As for the rest of the AL West: Los Angeles Angels (16), Seattle Mariners (18) and Oakland Athletics (30).

The Rangers are in Seattle for the middle game of a three-game series Tuesday night at 8:40 p.m. CT. Texas won the series opener 2-1 on Monday and claims the series with a win in either of the last two games.

Being considered the best team in the division makes sense considering the results on the field. The Rangers have yet to lose an AL West series, having already beaten the Astros, Athletics and Angels.

Texas won each of those series two games to one. The Rangers are 7-3 against the division overall.

Andrew Heaney (2-2, 5.52) starts for Texas on Tuesday, with George Kirby (3-2, 3.11) going for Seattle.
